Export control has become a serious topic for universities and science laboratories. As a Lab employee, you are responsible for compliance with export control policy in both research and non-research activities. Lab Director Mike Witherell shares his thoughts on export control in this video.
Export control failures and violations can result in severe consequences for both Berkeley Lab and you. You can be criminally prosecuted for violations that can result in fines and prison sentences. The Lab, as an institution, can be fined thousands of dollars and have its reputation tarnished, resulting in the loss of additional funding. Our reputation is one of our greatest assets, and we all share the responsibility of protecting it.
The Lab is implementing its Export Control Compliance Policy and has published an Export Control Compliance Program Manual, which provides:
- An overview of Berkeley Lab’s Export Control Compliance Program
- An overview of the U.S. Export Control Regulations and Sanction Programs
- Compliance procedures and responsibilities
- Compliance contacts and resources.
