All outbound international shipments must undergo export control review to determine (1) if an export authorization from the U.S. Government is required, and (2) whether the item is for end use by a restricted person or entity (“restricted party”). It is your responsibility to ensure that the item you are shipping is not intended for a prohibited end use, which may include use of the item directly or indirectly, in nuclear explosive activities; in unsafeguarded nuclear activities; or in the design, development, production, stockpiling, or use of chemical weapons, biological weapons, missiles, rockets or unmanned air vehicles.
To expedite the processing of your international shipment, complete the following before sending your item to the the designated LBNL shipping facility:
- Obtain the U.S. Export Control Classification Number (“U.S. ECCN”) of the item from the manufacturer in writing or complete the International Shipping Questionnaire.
- Provide the following information: name of the recipient, legal entity name of the recipient’s organization, and complete shipping address.
- Send your request to exportcontrol@lbl.gov for processing.
Based on the information from you, the Export Compliance Office will export classify the item, make the appropriate export license determination, and provide approval to ship the item to Shipping. Shipping will perform restricted party screening prior to shipment to ensure the item is not intended for end use by a restricted party.
